Coinbase Subscription and Services Revenue Reaches 49% of Net Revenue

Coinbase’s revenue mix continued to shift in the third quarter, with subscription and services producing 49% of net revenue while crypto trading activity weakened. The figures point to progress in reducing the company’s dependence on transaction activity, though transaction revenue remained slightly larger in dollar terms.

Revenue mix shifts as trading volume falls

Subscription and services revenue reached $570 million in the quarter, up 3% from $555 million in the previous quarter. Its share of net revenue climbed from 48% in the second quarter and 41% in the third quarter of 2025, according to the company’s update.

Transaction revenue was $590 million, compared with $599 million in the prior quarter. Total revenue was roughly flat at $1.2 billion. The near balance between the two categories marks a clear change in composition, but the figures show that transaction activity still contributed marginally more revenue than subscriptions and services.

That distinction matters because the two streams can respond differently to market conditions. Transaction revenue is tied more directly to customer trading activity, while Coinbase groups several sources under subscriptions and services: blockchain rewards, stablecoin revenue, interest and finance fee income, and other subscription and services. The category is broader than recurring subscription payments alone.

Chief Financial Officer Alesia Haas said total revenue held roughly flat despite a 10% decline in total market crypto trading volume. She attributed the offset to growth in prediction markets and subscription and services. In the company’s presentation, Haas said predictions and derivatives together contributed 25% of transaction revenue, while subscription and services supplied nearly half of net revenue.

Those figures describe two different parts of the business. The 25% share refers to prediction markets and derivatives within transaction revenue; the 49% figure refers to subscription and services as a share of net revenue. Together, they show Coinbase expanding activity beyond conventional spot trading while retaining meaningful exposure to trading-related income.

New product lines broaden the business

CEO Brian Armstrong described the company’s “Everything Exchange” effort as a push to let customers trade across asset classes on its platform. He said derivatives volume grew 179% over the past two years. Prediction markets, he added, became one of the fastest-growing products by revenue in Coinbase’s history, while the Coinbase One subscription program continued to grow despite market conditions.

Coinbase has also been building out stablecoin and payments services. Armstrong said banks, payment service providers and eCommerce firms have become customers for those offerings. The source provides no customer counts or revenue breakdown for those businesses, so their contribution to the quarter’s results cannot be assessed from the figures disclosed here.

Another part of the strategy centers on moving financial services onto decentralized blockchains. Armstrong said Coinbase’s Base blockchain maintained its position in crypto spot trading while expanding borrow and lend balances and tokenized equities trading volume. Those measures suggest activity across more than one use case, although the company did not provide figures for the balances or trading volumes in the cited presentation.

The breadth of these initiatives gives Coinbase more potential sources of activity, but their economic weight will depend on whether usage translates into sustained revenue. Subscription growth can provide a different source of income from transaction fees, while stablecoin services, derivatives and blockchain activity each have their own links to customer demand and market conditions. The reported figures establish momentum in parts of the portfolio without showing how much each will contribute over time.

Durability remains the key measure

For shareholders and business customers, the central question is whether the newer revenue streams can keep offsetting weaker trading periods. In the third quarter, Coinbase held total revenue roughly flat as market crypto trading volume declined, while the subscription and services share rose year over year. That is evidence of a more varied revenue mix, though one quarter alone does not establish how resilient it will be through different market cycles.

Further comparisons will depend on whether subscription and services revenue continues to grow, whether derivatives and prediction markets maintain their contribution, and whether payments and Base activity convert into additional business. Coinbase’s stated aim is to serve people, businesses and AI agents with tools to grow, use and move money. For now, the clearest measure of progress is the reported mix: subscription and services reached 49% of net revenue, alongside $590 million in transaction revenue and roughly flat total revenue.
